AGATE derives its name from the Achetes River, in Sicily. It is a type of banded, microcrystalline Quartz, called Chalcedony, very varied, with no single agate looking the same. The location where the Agate is mined, will mean the banding and colours will be very similar, hence the geographic prefix attached to many Agates, eg: Laguna Agate (after Ojo Laguna in Chihuahua, Mexico). Other Agates lend their names to specific colours or patterns, such as Moss Agate or Blue Lace Agate.

Unfortunately, Agates are often dyed, to improve their colour, however this does not affect their healing properties.

Agates hold numerous properties, depending on colour and have a lower intensity, so vibrating at a lower frequency. They promote composure and stability and encourage security and self-confidence.

They are useful as Amulets to protect when travelling and were used by ancient mariners to protect against the fury of the oceans.

Agates are "seeker/transformer" crystals, their structure brings the crystal's energy in line with that of the human mind, to look to new horizons and experiences. They are pointers, directors and compasses and are the crystals of new beginnings.

CHAKRAS:

A good crystal for improving concentration, perception and analytical abilities (Hall,39)

HEALING: As an Elixir, it stimulates the Digestive system and Relieves Gastritis. It is also beneficial for the eyes and hollow organs, such as the stomach, uterus, intestines etc… also healing skin problems such as itching and after insect bites. (Hall,39)(Megemont 16)(Gienger 7)

It is also useful for the heart and its blood vessels. Worn as a pendant in the middle of the chest, it strengthens the cardiac muscle and heals the emotional disharmony that prevents the acceptance of Love. (Megemont 16) (Hall,39)

Placed on the forehead, a cold Agate can cure a fever, however a doctor should be called if it returns. It can also help with the symptoms of Epilepsy and guard against Sleepwalking. (Megemont 16)

AEGIRINE was named after the Norwegian mineralogist, Hans Morten Thrane Esmark (1801-1882), who named this mineral after the mythical Norse sea God, Aegir, as it was discovered by the sea.

It can be found in several sites in Norway, such as Buskerud, Telemark and Vestfold, the Kola Peninsula in Russia, Narssarssuk in Greenland and Pocos de Caldas in Brazil, as well as Arkansas in the US. Some of the more beautiful and rare specimens can be found in Mt.Malosa, Malawi and Quebec in Canada.

AMAZONITE - Derives its name from the Amazon River and used to be mined in Chelyabynsk, Russia. Today, it can be found in Jabal Eghei, Libya, XinJyang, China, Pyke's Peak and Crystal Park in Colorado and the Morefield Mine in Virginia.

CHAKRAS: Very stimulating for both the Throat and Heart Chakras.
